Born in Montreal in 1977, Justin Lalancette received his Diploma in Visual and Media Arts from the Université du Québec à Montréal in 2002. He was also a founding member of the artist collective “Lattakeuse Dimage” in which he participated in many live performances. He presented the exhibit “Veau de Ville” at the Galerie Dominique Bouffard and “Chien de tête” at the Galerie d’Outremont in 2009. His paintings, largely inspired by graffiti culture, are constructed with different techniques and materials; drawing, painting, collages of enlarged photos particularly of his dogs, newspaper clippings and advertisements torn from city walls. Everything is superimposed, up to 15 layers deep, with interplay of opacity and transparency.
