  PATRICK HOWLETT OTHER ARTISTS

Born in Toronto in 1971, Patrick Howlett studied at Concordia University in Montreal and completed his Master of Fine Arts degree at the University of Victoria. In 2008, he was a semi-finalist in the 10th Annual Royal Bank of Canada Painting Competition exhibition which toured various venues across Canada. He has also exhibited at the Khyber Institute for Contemporary Arts in Halifax, the Struts Gallery in Sackville, New Brunswick, the Atelierhof Kreuzberg in Berlin, and the Susan Hobbs Gallery in Toronto. Howlett’s egg tempera paintings investigate the indeterminate nature of meaning in abstraction. In his work, Howlett uses quotes from artists that have inspired him, from the Group of Seven artist Lawren Harris to the early 20th century French philosopher Henri Bergson. Howlett’s thoughtful restraint reveals his sensitivity toward materials and design.
